Did You Know?
- Rental reimbursement and
towing coverage are not automatically included on your auto policy with
full coverage. These are separate coverages that must be specifically
listed on your policy.
- If you have a full-time
employee that works
in
your home you should have specific liability coverages to ensure that
if that employee is hurt on your premises or while performing their
duties, their medical expenses will be covered.
- If you hire a contractor
to do work in your home, you should request a certificate of insurance.
In the event that the work or materials are faulty, you have recourse
to file a claim under his contractor policy.
- If you own a home and are
in the process of building a new home, you can add that property to
your homeowner policy with "Builders Risk" coverage. This
ensures that if the building under construction collapses, is vandalized
or a theft occurs, you will be covered. In most instances, your builder
does not cover this.
- If you file a claim, your
insurance carrier is required under Illinois Law to respond within 30
days of the date of file.
- If you have a claim and
do not file within 30 days, you may be subject to denial. In addition,
if you file a claim and find additional damage later, you have up to
180 days to re-submit for review.
- Most policies have specific
exclusions such as pollution, flood, communicable disease, in home daycare,
corporal punishment and war. These perils are not covered.
- You should read your policy
terms and conditions and always call your agent with questions.
